When people think of getting Invisalign at Mistry Dental, one of the first things they want to know is will my insurance cover it. We get it, you want to know. Knowing how much your insurance will cover will help you decide if you will go ahead with orthodontic treatment which is a big financial commitment. Over the years we have dealt with many different insurance plans for patients in Mississauga. We want to share what we have learned about how insurance covers Invisalign.
The short answer is yes, many dental insurance plans do cover some of the cost of Invisalign but the amount and criteria varies a lot from plan to plan. There is no one size fits all answer so we always recommend you check your own benefits before making any assumptions about what will or won’t be covered.
Most full dental insurance plans cover orthodontic care as a separate category from routine dental care. If your plan covers orthodontics it probably covers Invisalign to some extent. But not all dental insurance plans include orthodontics. Many basic plans only cover preventive care like cleanings and exams and some restorative care like fillings. You won’t be able to get Invisalign or any other type of braces if your plan doesn’t cover orthodontic benefits at all. Laser dentistry uses cutting-edge technology to treat gum disease and other concerns with precision. It minimizes discomfort and promotes faster healing compared to traditional methods. This approach delivers exceptional results while ensuring patient comfort.
For plans that do cover orthodontics, the usual benefit is a lifetime maximum instead of an annual limit as you would have for other dental services. This means the insurance company will pay for orthodontic treatment up to a certain amount of money over your lifetime. Once that amount is reached, you won’t get any further orthodontic coverage even if you switch jobs or get a new insurance plan later. Most of the time the lifetime maximums are between $1,000 and $3,000 but some plans offer more and some offer less.
Most insurance companies that pay for orthodontics will pay for both Invisalign and traditional braces. They see both as the same type of therapy. We have however run into plans that don’t cover some types of orthodontic treatment at all or that only cover specific types of treatment at certain levels. You need to check your specific benefits instead of just assuming what they are. Porcelain veneers transform your smile by correcting chips, stains, and uneven teeth. Each veneer is custom-crafted to match your natural look. The result is a flawless, long-lasting smile enhancement.
Another thing that affects orthodontic coverage is age limits. Many insurance policies only cover orthodontics for kids and teens, stopping at age 18 or 19. Some policies cover people in their early twenties and some even cover adults who need braces. If you’re an adult thinking of getting Invisalign you should check to see if your plan covers adult orthodontics or just dependent children.
The amount of coverage can also change. Some plans cover 50% of orthodontic costs up to the lifetime maximum while others may pay more or less. If your plan has a $2,000 lifetime cap and pays for half of the costs and your Invisalign treatment costs $5,000, your insurance would pay $2,000 and you would have to pay the other $3,000.
We do everything we can to make the insurance process as smooth as possible for our patients at our Mississauga office. Before you start treatment we would be happy to check your benefits so you know exactly what to expect. We call your insurance provider directly to find out what kind of orthodontic coverage you have, what your lifetime maximum is, if there are any age limits, what percentage they cover and if there are any waiting periods or other conditions that could affect your coverage. You can use this information to help you decide on treatment and plan your budget.
We also take care of all the paperwork and filing of claims for you. You don’t have to bother filling out complicated forms or dealing with the red tape of insurance companies. We file claims directly with your insurance company and work with them to make sure you get all the benefits your plan says you should get. We will fight for you and try to resolve any issues that come up with your claim.
Your insurance may not cover the full cost of treatment but the coverage you do have can save you a lot of money. Insurance has saved patients $1,000 to $3,000 or more which makes treatment a lot more affordable.
We have other ways to make treatment more affordable for patients whose insurance doesn’t cover Invisalign or only covers it partially. We offer payment plans that let you pay over time instead of all at once. We also work with outside finance providers that can help you set up a payment plan with little or no interest if you meet certain requirements. No matter what kind of insurance you have we want to make sure you get good orthodontic care.
If you’re thinking of getting Invisalign and want to know if your insurance will cover it please call Mistry Dental. We can check your benefits and tell you exactly what your insurance will cover and how much you’ll have to pay out of pocket. This way you can make an informed decision about treatment without any surprises later on. We believe in being transparent and want to help you go through the insurance process as smoothly as possible.
