Periodontal Surgery

What is Periodontal Surgery?

This is the procedure done when the periodontal pocket is 5 mm or greater or when there has been advanced loss of gum tissue. Because of the chronic bleeding where there is deep pockets, this type of surgery is done to bring the pockets dept back to their normal depth of 1 to 3 mm, which will stop the bleeding gums.

With deep pockets, there is usually chronic bleeding, no matter how hard patient tries to keep these areas clean. Once the pockets are reduced and periodontal surgery, the place below the gum tissue is back to its normal 1 to 3 mm in depth.

We take great interest at your hygiene appointments to identify pockets, to make our patients aware of how to reduce these pockets through oral hygiene aids and follow up appointments to monitor the gums health.
